## About the standard-setting body

Read [About the OpenForex Society](?page=seed-content/about/society) for its purpose, work, relationship to the Foundation, and participation routes.

## Governance purpose
Governance connects a proposal to a reasoned decision and a versioned publication. It should protect the project's neutral standards mission while allowing researchers, developers, and readers to challenge assumptions and improve evidence.

The OpenForex Society is the standard-setting core of the OpenForex Foundation and the authority behind OpenForex Standards. This page explains stewardship and publication responsibilities within that established institutional relationship. Appointment records and detailed decision procedures belong to the corresponding governance records.

## Roles and boundaries
| Role | Responsibility |
| --- | --- |
| Visitor | Read and evaluate published material |
| Contributor | Prepare changes, questions, evidence, and proposals |
| Editor | Check clarity, references, structure, and publication readiness |
| Maintainer | Review technical correctness in an assigned domain |
| Council | Exercise standards and governance decision responsibilities under the Society's authority |

These roles summarize stewardship. Routine standards administration and assigned review use the authenticated Society governance workspace; journal work uses the editorial system. The public knowledge reader is a separate publication. Institutional authority, application permissions and publication editing remain distinct.

## Decisions worth recording
Material changes to equations, data rules, compatibility, governance authority, or funding privileges need a public explanation. Record the proposal, affected versions, reviewers, conflicts of interest, alternatives, decision rationale, and any transition conditions.

Editorial corrections can use a lighter process, provided they do not change technical meaning. If a wording change changes implementation behavior, treat it as technical.

## Neutrality and conflicts
A participant should disclose relationships relevant to the decision. Funding should not create undisclosed influence over methodology or review outcomes. Review records should identify when an affected participant abstained or when additional independent review was sought.

## Governing records
Governing records define appointments, decision procedures, appeals, and changes to authority. Cite the applicable record when exercising a role or processing an amendment. The wiki presents the stewardship framework without inventing voting thresholds, appointments, or procedural dates.

## Apply, review or submit

Read the [public review and participation guide](?page=docs/review-and-participation) for standards responsibilities, evidence rules, independent decisions, journal sections and privacy. The [participation desk](https://openforex.io/governance/participate) lists current submission calls and accepts private reviewer and administrator applications or initial standards requests. [Journal manuscripts](https://openforex.io/journal/index.php/society/about/submissions) use the journal author workflow. An application does not grant access or an appointment.
